{Wedding Wednesday} ~ How to Select A Wedding Stationery & Invitation Designer!

Disclosure: The links in this article/post contain affiliate links. Should you decide to purchase from one of these links I will receive a small commission. This is a win win for both of us. You are getting a deal you may not have known about and I may get a commission for sharing it with you.

Welcome back! This post is a continuation from last week’s {Wedding Wednesday} post of How to Select A Wedding Stationery & Invitation Designer! There was plenty of interest in that post. Wedding season is one of my favorite and I enjoy sharing my tips from November to September (Wedding Season). Without further ado here is part two.

Ask to review their contract.

• Reviewing the contract is not only for the designer’s protection, but for yours also. After all, you will be asked to sign it, and reviewing it prior to signing will ensure it is not one-sided in favor of the designer. Make sure the contract addresses such issues as: What happens in the event deadlines are missed? Do they outsource the work? If so, what rights do you have regarding a missed deadline? If they are a “solopreneur” what are your rights, if they are unable to deliver due to an unforeseen illness or circumstance?

• Yes, as the client, you may request revisions be made to the contract prior to signing. If a request for contract revision is met with resistance, then try to find a happy compromise or continue your wedding stationery designer selection process.

Evaluate whether this is their hobby, hustle or career.

• Are they on Yelp.com?
• Are they registered with the Better Business Bureau?
• Do they do this full time or is it a hobby?
• Do they have a business license?
• Do they have a website?
• Do they invest in their presentations?
• Do they have business cards?
• What is their turnaround time?

Check out their website.

• Their About Page will generally provide you with great insight regarding the focus of the company or designer and reveal to you what they are really all about. Are they rambling or straight to the point?

• Yes, you should go through their website with a keen eye and look for typos and grammatical mistakes. If their website, which is their presentation to the world, contains a lot of mistakes and/or excuses, chances are, their attention to detail is not where it needs to be and you may be in store for lots of proofing errors.

Check their social media.

• Have they ever been unprofessional via social media? Argued with a bride? Engaged a client in an aggressive manner?

• Do they post their work (your product) with your permission?

• Does their social media get updated consistently?

• Do they positively engage?

Wedding Post 6

Well, I am hopeful, the information I have provided, will give you some insight and assist you with the selection process of a high-quality and respectable wedding stationery and invitation designer. Taking all of this into consideration, the most important advice I can share with you, is to follow your instincts and do not be afraid to ask questions. And remember, I am only a keyboard away. Please leave your questions or feedback below.

{Wedding Wednesday} ~ How to Select A Wedding Stationery & Invitation Designer!

He popped the question and you said “I DO”! Now what? What is the first step in planning the wedding of your dreams? Well, the answer to that question is easy, but only, if you first prioritize and make a list of the most important tasks involved in planning a wedding such as: selecting the perfect date, selecting the perfect venue and then simply fill in the blanks with all the special details from there. With list in hand, today let us discuss selecting your wedding stationery designer. If you are creative by nature, one suggestion is, that you can opt to design the invitations yourself by using sites such as Minted.com or WeddingPaperDivas.com, which are two of my favorites. However, if you want to take a more hands off approach, another option is to retain the services of a professional stationery designer. Keep in mind that, should you decide to go with this option, there are a few points to consider.

Wedding Paper Divas 30% Off Sitewide Cyber Week 300x250

As a certified event designer, and Atlanta socialite, I have had the privilege and honor of working with a few of the most skilled wedding stationery designers in the industry, who have created the most SPECTACULAR and STUNNING invitations imaginable. There is a flip side to all of this though, and it is my goal as an event designer, to make you aware, that it is important for you to also do your due diligence when it comes to selecting the right designer to meet your wedding needs, because truth be told, not all designers are created equal. Therefore, here are seven tips to assist you on this journey.

Always check references of work and client services.

• Ask around outside of their circle to see if they have delivered on time or had to reschedule dates etc…

• Personally check all references and check them twice.

• Google them. Check with professional wedding sites for their work etc…

• Just because they come highly recommended does not mean their “work ethic” or “customer service” matches the recommendation.

• Oftentimes, people recommend friends they have never actually worked with. So do not be afraid to ask the question, “Have you ever personally worked with them?” Be cautious if they say “No.”

• Some unethical stationery designers, write their own reviews, use bogus emails or recruit family and friends to write positive reviews for them. For this reason, be leery of a designer with all “Five Star” reviews, proceed with caution. Remember, No one is perfect!

• Also, when checking references or their online presence, do they have multiple website addresses which lead to the same site? Or multiple phone numbers on their site(s)? What about multiple addresses? If you come across this, my advice is for you to proceed with extreme caution or better yet, run as fast as you can!

Ask about their experience.

• Ask if they are proponents of continuing education classes. This is very important because continuing education ensures that they are well informed of the latest trends, fonts, skills and more.

• Ask how often they go back for continuing educations classes and when was the last time they attended one.

• Ask what professional organizations they belong to and check with those organizations. If they do not belong to at least one of the organizations listed below, I suggest you not use their services because it may mean they are not invested in themselves or the craft.

~ ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants)
~ AFWPI (Association For Wedding Professionals International)
~ AACWP (American Association Of Certified Wedding Planners)
~ WIPA (Wedding Industry Professionals Association)

• Ask to view their portfolio. A well-established stationery designer will have a professional portfolio they are willing to share with potential clients, which will include a variety of stationery and invitation styles, save the date cards, table setting accessories etc…

Ask about their price points.

• Personally speaking, proof of a first-rate stationery designer, is one who offers at least two price points. It does not matter the type of clientele or budget they cater to, two price points offers to a potential client, diversity and the willingness, on the part of the designer, to work within various levels of design and budgets.

**To be continue next week on Wedding Wednesday. This is a two part series so be sure to check back next Wednesday.

Atlanta Has A Big Challenge ~ The Homeless Population!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Okay, this has been a remarkable rediscovery for me. No I was not living in denial. I knew Atlanta had a homeless population. I knew we would have one again even after the 1996 Olympics when “they” issued the homeless population one way bus tickets to the cities of their choosing. Little did we know an even huger population would replace the 1996 homeless population as everyone came here for their big Olympic job break. Yet, I digress however speaking as a native Atlantan the 1996 Olympic did change the fabric of the Atlanta most natives know and love.

~ 1992 Summer Olympics | Photo Credit: Social Shutter Blog ~

~ 1992 Summer Olympics | Photo Credit: Social Shutter Blog ~

Let’s face it every city has a homeless population and homeless challenge no matter how big or small but baby (in my New Orleans tone) Atlanta’s homeless population has exploded and the city of Atlanta is in BIG time denial! Yes, exploded and either EVERYONE is turning their head and/or Atlanta has no solutions. We have overflowing shelters, parks and everything at all times regardless of the weather. Tent cities. People living in hotels. People living in cars. People living in abandon buildings. People living with strangers. People sleeping in their storage units. People faking illness for some relief from the streets by going to emergency rooms. People committing minor crimes for three hots and a cot. People living in every nook and cranny on the streets and so much more! Mothers unable to find shelter because they have a school age male child between the ages of five and eighteen. Men, women, runaways, mothers with young children and the list goes on and on and on. From downtown Atlanta to the top of Midtown becomes a homeless route at night. The Civic Center Marta station is a hub of safety for the homeless from 11pm till sunrise because it is the best lite Marta Station and has constant activity because of the Mega Bus. IKEA’s free Monday breakfast is the homeless population dream. Dunkin Doughnuts and Starbucks are their bathroom, shower and place of warmth. Every gender, nationality, educational level and family background is among this population. Do they all “look homeless”? No they do not. Many of them look just like you and no they are not all criminals or drug addicts or mentally challenged. Again, Atlanta’s homeless population has exploded and your jaw would fall open at who is a part of the population. I mean some of Atlanta’s homeless are under employed, two parent families and more. Remember everyone who carries a book bag or rolling suit case does NOT attend school and are not heading to or from the airport. These are Atlanta’s homeless and WE the citizens of Atlanta need to find a permanent solution.

Home Lives Matter 1

What are some possible solutions I have in mind?

Let’s give tax breaks and more to hotels which give special rates and create homeless kits with the toiletries guest did not use. Face it. They were already paid for with that reservation and they are being allowed to offer it again to the next guest. What other establishment is allowed to do that? Restaurants are made to throw out uneaten food however hotels get to keep and represent unused toiletries.

~ Let’s help them with clothes, hygiene and health matters beyond the holidays and required projects.

~ Let’s keep the homeless informed about what is REALLY available to them beyond the shelters.

~ Let’s open some of closed hotels up for the homeless at special rates just for the homeless. $40 to $70 is not the rate a homeless individual need. On the low end that is around $1,200 dollars a month and on the high end that is $2,100 a month which is still a homeless set up. Why not create a solution of $15 per night for 30 to 120 days which is around $450 a month to help they get grounded again. This could even be an option for the ones on disabled or on SSI so they can survive. Trust me they are bringing home $300 to $1200 a month tops and there medication is probably one third if not half of that.

~ Let’s turn some of the abandon properties into boarding/rooming houses with guidelines and rules. Allow this as a 60 to 90 day solution and progress them to the option above.

~ Let’s turn some of the foreclosed homes into affordable housing and no even $800 a month is not affordable for most of Atlanta. More like $300 to $500. If we just created a two year program solution for this we could greatly reduce the population.

~ #HomelessLivesMatter ~

~ #HomelessLivesMatter ~

Homeles-Lives-Matter-3

Again, Atlanta homeless population has exploded and something needs and has to be done about it. This is NOT the last time you will hear about this from me. I am committed to writing about it until I am heard and I get some results. Atlanta is building new things that we do not even want of need yet we cannot take better care of our homeless. Yes, this is even a bigger problem and a heartbreaker. MY Atlanta used to give a damn, did not mind showing it and would come up with some solution even if it was a temporary.

Why My 14th Month Journey Has Been Wonderful!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Well, I am now in month fourteen of my fourteen month journey and I am so grateful for this journey! Very grateful. I have experienced a lot and yes, learned a lot. I guess now I can give this journey a title ~ Designing My Purpose! Yes, Designing My Purpose because that is exactly what I have done and accomplished. I am grateful for the challenges, struggles, victories and success. They have made me even better than before and just added further strength to MY story of MY glory!

~ Kimberly Wright ~

~ Kimberly Wright ~

You often have heard me state “If you only knew my story…” and “Beauty for my ashes…” and “This too shall pass…” and “I did not know my own strength…” which soon I will began to share exactly what those mean to me and to tell my stories. People often hear of my health challenges and ask “So when is the book coming?” and I truly do not have an answer nor a good response because the book(s) should have been written a million times over. Then I put the hardest questions to myself during my private time and ask the Who, What, When, Where and Why which leads to so many other stories which need to be shared to help others and lighten my load. This load gets REALLY heavy often and I find myself running from myself because I cannot believe how I have let people get away with murder regarding me. Hmph… People know me or know of me for so many different reasons, seasons, things, gossips or truths however no one and I do mean no one actually knows my truths and that is what I plan to share from now till at least 2025 because they are MY stories to share! I have a lot to say and share and since I have been designing my purpose, letting go, reorganizing my life and creating my new peace. Once again I finally know the why and how to proceed accordingly in all aspects of my life.

14th Month Journey Graphic

So I cannot wait till January 2015 when the big reveal begins to happen! It will be epic and phenomenal at the same damn time! Do not believe me? Just watch! I am so looking forward to moving in purpose and silence.

Santa Baby Have You Seen This Cannon EOS Rebel T5I? #CanonatBestBuy #HintingSeason

Disclosure: Yes, I have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card for this review. All opinions shared are 100% my own.

I have been in the market for a new camera for some time. I have not purchased a camera brand new since the 90’s when I became a mother. Yes, the 90’s. I have just been purchasing my cameras from two local pawn shops and honestly that has been working well for me until I became a blogger and self-proclaimed Wordsmith. At that point pawn shop cameras just did not work anymore for my red carpet opportunities and all. So I took Tammie Reed of Talking With Tammi advice. One of the first things she shared at her blogging event in 2012 was “Invest in yourself by investing in a good camera. Let go of your camera phone and point and shoot cameras. They will not take you seriously” That was some of the most golden pieces of advice I was given on this journey. Then as I started engaging in my blogger opportunities and FAM trips I quickly discovered Tammi was so right. My little point and shot camera and my ever changing camera phone was just not the cutting it. So after about two years of being in denial and observing fellow bloggers, Wordsmith’s and photographers produce amazing beautiful pictures I started taking brand names, noting what I wanted and watching the sales. Who knew cameras now can come with Wi-Fi! How cool is that? Well after much soul searching the Cannon EOS Rebel T5i probably going to be a gift for my daddy! He does not need the Wi-Fi and it will be perfect for him.

Canon-Holiday-Image-Camera-Front-View

Considering Best Buy is my favorite destination for electronics and appliances I had to drop in for a sneak peak. Can we say amazement! The Canon EOS Rebel T5i is one of the best-selling DSLRs. Digital Single Lens Reflex camera means a camera which has all the controls needed to achieve the type of professional picture desired. The Canon EOS Rebel T5i makes advanced photography simply, easy, fun, and delivers you the perfect image quality, along with multitudes of features to enhance your creative expression. According to their site the Canon EOS Rebel T5i provides the following:

Canon-Holiday-Image-Camera-Back-View 2

• Capture Hollywood caliber full HD video
• Continuous autofocus while taking HD video
• Features an 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 5 image processor to ensure vivid, crystal-clear images.
• The 3″ vari-angle touch screen simplifies navigation.

So save $150.00 on the Canon EOS Rebel T5i at Best Buy*. Visit Best Buy to learn more. This offer of savings is valid 12/7/14 to 12/20/12. #CanonatBestBuy #HintingSeason
