On Saturday, March 8th I had the honor, pleasure and privilege of watching MY Nicolette Aaron marry Morgan Burnett of the Green Bay Packers. Nikki and Morgan have a LOVE story that goes way back to their days at North Clayton High School in Riverdale, GA. For as long as I can remember the two have been LOVE BIRDS and just enjoying life.
~ Mrs. Morgan Burnett ~
Their union was simply BEAUTIFUL. There were not too many dry eyes at the end of the ceremony held at Atlanta’s prestigious Biltmore Hotel You could feel their passion and joy of becoming Mr. & Mrs. After watching them “Jump The Broom” and vowing to not allow any man or woman to come between them we partied the evening away. Let me tell you Mr. & Mrs. 42, as they are affectionately known, know how to throw a GRAND party with the BEST music and an open bar. We partied to 2am and the Bride and Groom were still going.
I am screaming I survived THE STROKE seven years ago today! I am SO grateful to be here with my son, family and friends. Seven years ago to this date I had a massive stroke in my sleep due to undiagnosed diabetes. Three weeks prior to the stroke I had sent out a mass email to friends and family advising them of what to do if them or someone they knew were having a stroke. Little did I know I would be the someone. Yes, me…a vibrant thirty something year old single parent doing the damn thing. I had everything I needed and about 85% of what I wanted from a good relationship with God to a GREAT son to MY own house to excellent family and friends. I was not even overweight even had a clean bill of health forty five days prior to the stroke.

So here I was having a stroke in my sleep and truly unable to help myself because I was sleep. As a result to this day I never sleep more than three hours straight. Why you ask? Well if I had gotten to the hospital within five hours of noticing the first symptom I would have been eligble to get a thrombolytic shot to reverse the stroke. Thrombolytic helps reestablish blood flow to the brain by dissolving the clots. Since I was sleep whenever the stroke started and ended I was not eligible. If they had given me the shot anyway it would have done more damage than good so I was faced with a new reality. I should have paid more attention to the severe headache which I had about a week earlier for no known cause. I never have headaches and that was the fifth one I had in all my life because again I never get headaches.

So let’s fast forward seven years. The past seven years have been one hell of a journey yet in the words of Dr. Maya Angelou “Still I Rise…” People can be so cruel to the physically challenged that is incredible. Incredible I say.
For me having a stroke was very similar to a death when the actual “event” is over people forget about you, try to take advantage of you and no longer check on you after the first month or first year. First I was sad about it, then I was mad about and now I just block it out until this time of year. I have learned how to enjoy my alone time and just invest in my spirit, my son and my goals. Sure, some days are better than others however in the words of Bob Marley…“Truth is everybody is going to hurt you: you just gotta find the one worth suffering for.”
~ Bob Marley ~
One day I plan to become a brand ambassador for the Faces of Stroke and start a foundation to ease the effects of stroke for the next thirty something year old single mother who has a stroke. I do not want anyone else to experience what I experience without the proper resources and support in place. Please do not get wrong…my resources and support were better than most. A lot better and I am grateful for that however I want to offer the next person the best of the best from financial to physical to medical to ongoing support and more. My reality has been brutal at times and lovely at times however mostly brutal. I have to keep my spirits up more than you ever could imagine on top of life’s other challenges. And not to toot my own horn however as a two time stroke survivor and a two time cancer survivor I rock! In the words of The Voice aka Whitney Houston… “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”
Have a DYNAMIC day and make sure you stay abreast of the warning signs of stroke.
I have been a fan of this website for about two years and counting. WhatNowAtlanta.com is the perfect website for keeping you in the know and your curiosity satisfied. They share it all from openings, closings, expansions, restaurant grades and renovations in Atlanta’s business district. No fluff here just straight from the hip reporting.
They brand themselves as “We’ve assembled a panel of picky perfectionists who help us break news and make informed, BIASED opinions. They’re thought leaders, tastemakers, and trendsetters in restaurants, retail and real estate. You know who they are, but we’re not sayin’” and they deliver just that. I have fallen in love with them more so because their restaurant report cards. They give you everything including who failed and why. This has been a lifesaver for me. Several restaurants which I use to frequent are no longer in the rotation because of WhatNowAtlanta.com bringing their scores to life.
The retail shares have been amazing. My C B Richard Ellis days allow me to have a great appreciation for this. WhatNowAtlanta.com gives you the REAL business from the good to the bad to the ugly to the AMAZINGLY DYNAMIC! They keep you current on everything happening in the city from beginning to end. I have been especially intrigue with their up to date reports of all the happenings in Buckhead. Often Buckhead projects are historically tight lipped however they still give you the business. Love it I say… Below are some of my favorite links.
The fourteen month journey is going good. Very good I might add. There is truly a MAJOR benefit to taking the time to stop and smell the roses. I had not done that in years…twenty years to be exact. In doing so I implemented some wonderful things which worked really well for me back in the day when I was fearless, bright eyed and full of hope. So as a result I have fine-tuned this journey down to five professional projects and two personal ones. There have been some challenges along the way, especially in February, but that is nothing new. I am strong as an ox and when faced with challenges I simply turn within and conquer them with grace.
A special THANK YOU to Charles, Kim, Malika and Jasmine! You are appreciated. Funny how life allows you to find your strength in others. Each of you have given me new direction. For that I am grateful… THANK YOU, Thank You, thank you!!!!
So what are the five professional projects you ask? Well, I am not ready to share all the details yet because contracts are being signed, deals are still under works and visions are being further outlined however you will see me grow tremendously over the next nine months! So excited about this and yes nervous at the same time. I have never been one to embrace change quickly. I usually fight it tooth and nail however this time is different. I am welcoming every aspect of this change with open arms and embracing it beyond belief.
Thank you for reading the blog. I find this totally interesting for many reasons but mostly because I absolutely do not like Selfies. I have a strong belief that adults should not take Selfies for any reason. Either take a picture like we did back in the day or not however Selfies are way too much self-indulgence for me. So you will not get thirty one days of Selfies from me however they may be a photograph or two of me actively engaging in an activity that I am sharing. For March I have been challenged to share thirty one posts about myself and share a post every weekday. I accepted this challenge and here is my first post of ten things about Kimberly.
1. I LOVE a sunrise and sunset! Love it I say. Both sooth my soul and in my eyes represent a peaceful beginning and end to each day.
2. I read two books a week. One book Monday through Thursday and another one Friday through Sunday. I plan to read a hundred books by December 31st.
3. I have to have sunlight or bright lights in my life every day. Light is the key to my energy and creativeness.
4. I love numerology and think it is a key essential to understanding the who and why to life.
5. I had plans to be a mother of four. I wanted four sons all three years apart.
6. I wish I had stayed true to my dream of becoming a professional ballerina and performing for Alvin Ailey and studying at Julliard.
7. I have experienced true love twice in my life. Those two men where my soul mates. Our timing was just off however not our love, passion or intention.
8. I love to travel and my traveling bucket list is sixty two items long! Yes, sixty two.
9. I am a multi-passionate network however I truly enjoy time alone and silence.
10. My Godmother Marie is my BEST advocate and truly understands more about me than any other person on this earth. She gets me.
Well, there you have it! Ten interesting things about Kimberly. Please share two interesting things about you.

Love this website. Black and Married With Kids is shining the light on the positives within the African American community. Since 2007 they have been able to build the largest independent African American marriage and parenting site on the web which they have done an excellent job of doing. For the month of February, which is Black History month and Black Love month, they have created a weekly series pointing out some positive truths you would not want to believe about the African American community because the media and society do not encourage you to see this very positive side our community. I love it! Take a look at the first two videos. Enjoy…
What are your thoughts on these videos?
What new insight did you learn?
I am very grateful for them sharing this and look forward to the next one on Monday, February 24th.
