Yep, that is right. Yahoo wants to know what your dream email name is so they can put it on their wish list just for you! We all have done it. Done what you say? Signed up for an email account and stopped using it. Face it, the only reason we signed for it was “just in case…” Well, Yahoo has spent the past year reclaiming any email address which has not been used in over year.
Yes, that is correct. Yahoo’s well aware a number of its users left a few years back and have not logged into their Yahoo accounts for quite a while for whatever their reason. Yahoo began offering up those dormant email addresses last week. New or current Yahoo users can create a wish list of their most desired usernames or email addresses and hopefully the Yahoo Fairy may grant your wish.
Last month the company informed users whose accounts were dormant for over a year they would begin a process which would give away their addresses. Well, now twelve months later Yahoo says, and it’s now time to free up those unused addresses for others to use. Users can go to Yahoo’s new wish list site at https://wishlist.yahoo.com to request the username of their dreams! I have already placed my wish. I have five which I REALLY want. My only hope is my dreams come true.
“If your first choice isn’t available, we’ll try one of your backups,” Yahoo’s Dylan Casey wrote in a Tumblr post about the new site. In mid-August the company will inform those who have requested new usernames if their wish was granted!
It sounds like a fun and a really cool way to get a new user name, but there are some concerns, notably around privacy and for those who had these e-mail addresses before and used them to log in to social media and e-commerce sites. Yahoo says it is working with sites like Facebook and Twitter to get around possible challenges.
The username wish list project is just one of many changes Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, has made since she took over a year ago this week. Mayer has made a series of acquisitions and refreshes to products, including Yahoo’s weather app and Flickr photo-sharing service.
Hats off Yahoo. We see you and LOVE what you are doing. What a way to lead the pack!!!! AOL will you be following? 😉
I haven’t used Yahoo! in eons. I guess my old addresses will be some of the ones up for grabs 🙂 Love that the company is making strides under the new leadership!
You too?!? Lol… Same here. I think it is a GRAND move to get fresh customers. Wonder how long before AOL follows? 😉
